September 2020 – Now
Deputy Manager at Birmingham City Student Homes
I took on this role in September 2020. And what immediately drew me to it was the responsibility the role holder would have to take. From the da-to-day running of the office, to the design and delivery of a marketing and outreach plan and the responsibility for all elements of the letting process. I just felt it was the right position for me, and that I would thrive in it.
Well, it didn’t disappoint. I have an almost complete creative freedom. I have already implemented systems and processes to increase efficiency and reduce errors. We’re going from an anecdotal culture where a lot of the decisions were based on observations to a continuous improvement culture where data analysis is at the heart of our decision-making process.
My journey has just started, and I barely scratched the surface of what’s possible to achieve.

Lettings Manager at Love Your Postcode
When I arrived at Love Your Postcode, half the staff had left the company unexpectedly. And the owner, now a friend of mine, needed an experienced manager to take over the letting side of the business.
I didn’t really have time to settle and by the second day I was already picking up phone calls and arranging viewings. Fortunately, I was responsible for 2 staff members who had been at the company long enough to help me during the first few days.
Although the job didn’t involve much marketing, there was a huge emphasis on selling optional products. For prospective tenants, renting a property with us often meant joining our membership club in return for exclusive services. I didn’t really believe in the idea at first, as I thought it was way too expensive, but I must say it was a stroke of genius from the director.
I did extremely well the first month. Why? Because if there is something I’m really good at, it’s definitely selling. And I rate this skill as perhaps one of the most important skills one must possess, at least in the business world.
However, one thing I immediately noticed upon my arrival was the weak prospective tenant vetting process in place. Renting a property took too many viewings as most of the viewers didn’t have the right profile. So, armed with already 8 years experience in the letting industry, I went on to create a new vetting process and managed to double our viewing conversion rate in just a few months.
After a while, I felt like this job wasn’t for me anymore and that I needed something else. Plus, it was always clear in the director’s mind as well as mine that this adventure would only last for a short period of time.

Business Owner at Your Living Choice
Not even graduated from Coventry University, I decided to start my own letting Agency, after I realised I had what it takes to make it as a property manager.
Starting from scratch, I managed to build a 80-property, £250k-turnover business within 3 years, but lost it all a couple of years later. As a one-man band, I was dealing with every aspect of the business: day-to-day operations, accounting, marketing and everything in between. After growing the business significantly within the first few years, I was able to recruit 2 members of staff. I was also one of the first to introduce the rent-to-rent scheme, when most landlords in Coventry had never heard of it.
Around the same time, I created a Facebook group that would become to go place for anyone looking for an accommodation in Coventry.
